Our visit to Egypt's capital was amazing and overwhelming. From the imposing pyramids to the terrifyingly chaotic traffic, in Cairo, it is best not to blink. Conveniently they make some damn strong coffee to remedy such a problem. It is without a doubt the most exhausting trip I've ever been on. By comparison Cairo has made me appreciate the "calm" pace of Jerusalem.
The high point for me was probably watching Q climbing through the shaft to the tomb within one of the pyramids. In fact, our time at the pyramids is firmly planted amongst some of the best experiences of my life thus far. If you're planning a visit, a camel ride and the evening light and sound show are definitely worth the extra Egyptian Pounds.
Even a few of the countless tourists made it more enjoyable. When Ozzi started getting disagreeable a few Japanese women presented him with a variety of little treats. Finally I got to put to use the Japanese I learned from Styx. "Domo arigato." This seemed to impress them and it soon became almost a competition for who could give Ozzi the best little gift. With each offering came the typical Japanese bows. This, all in the shadow of the great pyramid, made the experience even more surreal.
The low point is the constant attempts by most everyone to get us to give them money for one thing or another... but hey, on the bright side, I can now say I paid off a cop... and he did take a halfway decent picture of us all.
Your photos are so sweet!! What an amazing childhood those boys are having. The family photos are worth whatever you had to pay for them. :-)
